There is Nothing Like the Present

So many, many people want to know the future.  “How much money will I have when I turn 70?”  “When can I retire and live off all the money I’ve saved?”  Or this is a really popular one, “When can I retire?”  And these questions really reveal the truth which is, “How much do you or I, or anybody else for that matter, really know and understand about the future?”

What we do know it that change is THE law of life.  “Those who look only to the past are certain to miss the present, and by missing the present they will most certainly miss a brighter future.”[i]  Bill Keane the cartoonist, noted for his long-running newspaper comic The Family Circus, penned these words: “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift.  That’s why it’s called the present.”  Enjoy it.

And so we must learn from the past if we want to become successful in the future.  But planning for our future requires that we focus on the present otherwise we’ll miss the fun and joy of living.  That is why Sophocles of Antigone rightfully stated, “Tomorrow is tomorrow.  Future cares have future cures.  Mind today.”

By seizing the blessings of today we can harness the power of tomorrow. Time spent dwelling on the past will only destroy the present which too quickly becomes the future.  But by letting the past go we open the doors of opportunity to the future while still embracing the present.  “Daydreaming of the past and longing for the future may provide comfort, but comfort will NOT take the place of living in the present.”[ii]

And so as C.S.  Lewis once wrote, “It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird, but it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg.  You cannot go on indefinitely remaining an ordinary, decent egg because eggs must hatch or go bad.”  Living in the present prepares us for the future while dwelling on the past robs us of the joy and the opportunity of moving into our future.

Eli Cohen once noted that, “Hell begins when you meet the man you could have been.”  Dreaming of the future or dwelling on the past leads to hell very fast.  Why not instead learn from the past while planning for the future by living today?  This happens to be the very best way to find success and genuine abundance.  Because we can’t become genuinely wealthy without taking care of today.

That is why we always encourage people to begin saving 10% of what you earn TODAY.  Don’t focus on what you earned last week or 5 years ago. And certainly don’t tally your chickens before your eggs hatch by planning on saving more tomorrow because you don’t or can’t save 10% TODAY.  Focus on TODAY (this week, this month, this year.)  And make sure you save that 10%.  Without this 10% your opportunities for success and building genuine wealth are slim and speculative at best.

Of course the 10% becomes the seed that grows, the abundant harvest in the future.  And so it is perilous to save that 10% anywhere that you don’t have a contractual guarantee that it will be safe and secure.  That means it should NOT be subject to penalties, future taxation, fees or service charges.  You also want to be able to freely leverage your 10% when opportunities and occasions knock at your door.  And make no bones about it.  Nature abhors a vacuum.  There is nothing like living in the present to open the door to opportunities and occasions.

So start living in the present by saving 10% and you’ll soon be calling us here at McFie Insuranceto take advantage of the Perpetual Wealth Code™.  The Perpetual Wealth Code™ can be put to work in your life TODAY so that your future and the future of your children and grandchildren can be even better than you could otherwise plan for.  But it all starts TODAY by living in the present.  Not the past and not the future.
